Report: Vaccination rollout won’t prevent third wave of COVID-19
Tampa Bay is beginning to feel the effects of the third wave of coronavirus, and the vaccine won’t be able to stop it in time. The Pfizer vaccine started being administered to health professionals Dec. 14; however, mass distribution likely won’t begin until the spring. In the meantime, social distancing measures will be vital in stopping the spread of COVID-19 (ºÚÁÏÍø³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏNewsroom).
Jr Scientist program expands their virtual reach with help from ºÚÁÏÍø³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏCollege of Marine Science students
Developed in 2014 by CMS students, the goal of the Jr Scientist program is to give middle and high school students the opportunity to volunteer at the festival, as a way to engage them in science.

A team of researchers in the ºÚÁÏÍø³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏDepartment of Surgery has made a key discovery as to why we become more susceptible to heart disease as we age. The human body, especially the heart, is dependent on the mitochondria, the part of the cell responsible for producing energy to maintain organ function. The protein, Sesn2, is located inside the mitochondria and plays a pivotal role in protecting the heart from stress (ºÚÁÏÍø³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏNewsroom).
ºÚÁÏÍø³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏHealth and Tampa General Hospital have been selected as a site for a clinical trial testing the Novavax NVX-CoV2373 vaccine for COVID-19. They join over 100 research sites expecting to enroll more than 30,000 adult participants as part of the global search for a safe and effective vaccine to prevent COVID-19 (ºÚÁÏÍø³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏNewsroom).
