A group of ºÚÁÏÍø³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏalumni won $20,000 in a national competition for the creation of a low-cost ventilator prototype. Biomedical engineering alumni Abby Blocker, Carolyna Yamamoto Alves Pinto and Jacob Yarinsky created Eucovent, a device resembling a small box that splits the airflow from one ventilator to two patients (ºÚÁÏÍø³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏOracle).

Molecular detective on a mission to discover the mysteries of drug-resistant bacterial pathogens
Since Professor Les Shaw joined ºÚÁÏÍø³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏas a researcher in 2007, he’s discovered several systems within bacteria cells that have led to significant therapeutic developments for treating drug-resistant bacteria. He attributes his success to USF’s interdisciplinary and collegial community of scientists (ºÚÁÏÍø³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏNewsroom).

Dr. Hariom Yadav, an associate professor of neurosurgery and brain repair, was recruited to the ºÚÁÏÍø³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏHealth Morsani College of Medicine to direct the Center for Microbiome Research. When he joined ºÚÁÏÍø³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏHealth, he brought more than $4 million in research awards from the National Institutes of Health and the U.S. Department of Defense.

For 10 years, Steven Murawski, a Marine Science professor with the ºÚÁÏÍø³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ, has headed the $40 million research program. Including using a ship called the R.V. Weatherbird II, which is basically a floating laboratory that ºÚÁÏÍø³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏscientists took out into the Gulf to do their research (ABC Action News).

ºÚÁÏÍø³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏSchool of Geosciences Professor Jennifer Collins has been elected as a Fellow of the American Meteorological Society in recognition of her contributions to understanding weather, climate and hurricanes and their societal impacts, while leading creative undergraduate research programs and bringing cutting-edge weather science to the community.
