Stop Payment Requests

You need to request a stop payment on a ºÚÁÏÍø³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏrefund check for the following reasons:

  • Check was never received
  • Check is stale dated (over 90 days old)
  • Check was lost, stolen or destroyed

Stop payments will not be processed until 15 business days from the date the check was issued to you.

How do I request a stop payment of my refund check?

All stop payment requests and requests for copies of checks must be requested in writing from the student. To request a stop payment please fill out a separate Stop Payment Request Form for each check you need canceled.

Where do I submit my stop payment request?

The completed form should be emailed to SFSStopPay@USF.EDU . Please include "Stop Payment Request" in the subject line of the email.e.

Will I get a a replacement check?

Once it is verified that the original check has not been cashed and that you do not have an outstanding account balance, a new refund will either be mailed to you as a check or sent to your checking account if you have signed up for eDeposit. 

How long will a stop payment take?

It can take up to 15 business days from when the stop pay is requested before a new refund is issued.

Can I pick up my new refund check?

Checks cannot be picked up. Please make sure your local mailing address in Student Self-Service is updated, as this is the address that checks are sent to or sign up for eDeposit to get your refund quicker.

What if my stolen check was cashed?

You can request a copy of your cashed check on the stop payment request. You need to contact your local law enforcement to report any suspected theft.
